Business Portrait Photography

I love portrait photography. I must admit it is one of my favourite genres as I love photographing people. Those who know me well know that I am a sociable type. I have also been described as great at building rapport – so I am going to take it, own it and celebrate it! Business Portrait Photography can be quite intimidating, as any other type of portrait photography can be. You can see some of my portrait photography here. As you can see I have photographed lots of people, from music icons like Ronnie Wood to breaking news headliners like Julian Assange. Each of them are incredibly unique and a natural skill is required to build a connection with them (and nerves of steel!) I feel so honoured to have been trusted to be the professional photographer of choice for those portraits – and to be honest I still get nervous! And I think it is great – the day that I stop getting a bit nervous prior to a portrait photography session I think I will have to rethink things.

Most of my clients come from word-of-mouth, and others I just meet them while photographing other client’s events. They see me and they think “she looks like she knows what she is doing!” So, I started working with Howden just like that. I was the Awards Photographer of choice for the annual prestigious Private Equity Awards, held at the jaw dropping venue that it is the JW Marriott Grosvenor House London and they were one of the Sponsors of the evening. As I was engrossed in photographing all the winners they asked if I could take their picture by their company logo “of course!”

followed by “Do you do company headshots?”, “Sure I do!” a quick interchange of emails and I have been their Headshot Photographer for over the past two years, their business is constantly growing so I am back at their office every other month photographing their new joiners.

As well as doing their formal Headshot Photography at their London Bridge and Creechurch Place offices they requested my professional photographic services for their Team Away Days which took place at the quirky Birch Community Hotel. The team enjoyed multiple activities from treasure hunting, wine tasting and cocktail making, to multiple activities that took place simultaneously – I got all of them covered. I also set up my portable studio where I did some headshot photography as they flew members of their different global teams in for the occasion. The Team Away Days were so much fun and a joy to photograph! Also, they really looked after me, which is always greatly appreciated!

ACTIVITIES 021

CEO Portrait Photographer

We were looking at dates for me to come back to their office as their Headshot Photographer as they had new people joining. While settling this a request for a portrait of their CEO came from the well established newspaper City AM. Howden wanted me to be the photographer to take this task, I felt truly honoured, and to be honest a bit nervous (I find this helps me!)

They thought it would be good to do this portrait on their rooftop that offers incredible views of the City of London Skyline, so that would be the backdrop.

Over the next few days I kept an eye on the weather. Too much sun wouldn’t be good as it would make hard shadows, hot spots, shiny skin and the subject would squint and feel uncomfortable…just to name a few collateral effects! But, if that was to happen I had it all planned, as you can hire a silk sheet frame to soften the light. So that was under control, but, if it was to rain, well… it didn’t so let’s not worry about that this time!

CEO’s usually have very little time available but Mary O’Connor had the right approach to her portrait session. She really valued photography and the impact that this has in a newspaper article, and I could feel that she completely trusted me, which plays a really big part in all of this! Also I must admit, she owned the portrait session.

Mary says a huge thanks for the photo – she thinks it really lifts the piece, and it does!
