I loved being the London Event Photographer of choice for this particular venue in the prestigious London Pall Mall. It wasn’t my first time there but it always feels special to be called by one of my clients to be their RAC London Event Photographer when the opportunity arises.

Pall Mall is a London Street famous for all the gentlemen’s clubs built there back in the 19th and early 20th Centuries, and amongst them is the Royal Automobile Club, which is a members-only venue.
I was the RAC London Event Photographer at a dinner discussion taking place at The Mall room. Guests arrived to a glass of bubbles and some very interesting networking discussions judging by how engaged in conversation they were. I always make sure that I capture this with my event photography. As this venue is particularly beautiful from an aesthetic point-of-view I make sure that I include in my event photography the features of the space for context.
The evening was organised by Compass Executives and chaired by renowned journalist Andrew Neil – you can find out more about the discussion that took place here – the subject was the future of Social Care.
Discussions took place between dinner courses and I was there to capture each participants intervention – when doing this I always make sure that I capture them animated and with the rest of the participants looking engaged.
Taking photographs during a dinner can be a bit uncomfortable for the attendants so I always make sure that I leave them space to eat in peace (no one likes a photographer lingering by their side while they are eating, understandably). But there are those moments between courses and when the table has been cleared that gives a perfect opportunity to capture the conversations and interventions.

As well as doing the Event Photography, I always try to include in the full edited album that I deliver to the client, some pictures of the space and details. I believe this help to add context to the event. On this occasion there was also a request to capture some food photography which was a real pleasure as it was beautifully presented!
When photographing at a venue like the Royal Automobile Club you really have to dress for the occasion – I always dress smartly regardless, as I really like to fit in. I feel it makes me less conspicuous and more blended-in to the event itself. I also think my clients appreciate and value it. The RAC has an strict dress code section and I was happy to meet the requirements, I think I did a good job as the door man went to take my camera suitcase followed by “Good evening madam, are you staying with us tonight?” If only!
